We used the SIGs for reading books in the past. I am thinking particularly of the study sessions in the Analytics SIG, where we bought a copy of a book on Network theory and used that hour to read for 40 minutes and discuss for 20. This scheme is obviously time-consuming and, worse of all, it really doesn't work for everyone (such as those of us who prefer reading alone and in a calmer manner).
Said this, having a curated list of materials can be a very good idea. And yes, I also have some suggestions :)
