non-substantive: spelling cleanup #172

In #171 i think some attempts at spelling cleanup caused problems. This series applies more spelling cleanup, and i think it should not cause any problems, but please do review it first :)

If we can get the codebase to a state that a standard spellchecker like "codespell" can run over it with no complaints, then you can build a codespell run into your static analysis to avoid introducing any misspellings.

This series doesn't get it to be fully-clean with codespell 2.1.0-1, but it's much closer.
