2 years ago Desktop version is still a work in progress (we didn't make an official release since pre-2.0 times). Keyboard navigation is broken because we don't lock focus to specific element which leads to this behaviour when you can navigate out of the grid and start focusing into other parts of the UI. I know about this, but fixing it is not a high priority until desktop version is the main focus of development.
if I set the linux app to mobile interface, I can scroll with the arrow keys, both in search view and in the menus, and in image view page, it changes the image. if I set it to desktop mode, the scrolling is really buggy - without clicking anything, it sometimes changes the scroll position of the search results, the tag list, or focuses keyboard input into the search box. it never changes the image, even in fullscreen view
