At the request of @CoryMartin-NOAA , I have come up with a subset of channels for the hyperspectral instruments to prevent producing plots for 1328 channels. This gets the number down to 95.
The channels are chosen to cover a wide range of atmospheric regimes. Most, but not all, channels are actively assimilated. These could potentially form the basis of a subset of channels used in monitoring, but some tweaks may be required.
N.B. The channel numbers refer to absolute instrument channel numbers. So for IASI the channel is out of 8461 IASI channels, not the 616 channel subset we use.
Work has begun on branch feature/ch_subset. This should be straightforward to implement but will need to wait to test once Orion is back up from maintenance.
