Passing along to the obsproc support list to make sure the question gets seen.

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this. In October Eumetsat have removed the Seviri clear sky radiance product and hence the SERVIRI bufr files on the nomads server have been blank (zero size) ever since. Im guessing this means no geostationary satellite data is going into the GFS from Europe/Africa area? Is there any plan to put the all sky radiances into the GFS and put these into the Seviri bufr file on the nomads server?

Shelley, thanks for bringing this to my attention!
Hi Adam, ObsProc is aware that EUMETSAT discontinued the SEVIRI CSRs. They do provide ASRs and we generate the following dump files:
/lfs/h1/ops/prod/com/obsproc/v1.1/gdas.2022//atmos/gdas.t*z.sevasr.tm00.bufr_d I am Cc-ing a few Data Assimilation (DA) team members to chime in on the plans to use these. As far as I know, the ASRs are not actively assimilated at teh moment.
In order to put the ACSs files on nomad we need to make a coordinated effort between ObsProc, DA and NCO DataFlow teams. If you wish that, please send a separate email request to @. and @. @.***> as this takes some time.
Thanks, iliana

Hi Iliana,
Thanks for this. Thought you might have already been aware but with the SevCSR bufr files still being produced by obsproc and then onto the nomads server then i wasnt sure. Not a problem if it is too much effort as you will be pleased to know that subjectively i think the GFS has performed better than some other global models over Europe in terms of surface pressure recently. This better performance compared to other models might not link to the Sev CSRs being discontinued but i have seen a few papers saying ASRs from Seviri have preformed better in verification compared to the CSR product. If the CSR's from Seviri were assimilated then might be worth looking into the ASR's but if they werent then with Serviri not being that high res satellite data then might be better keeping it as you are with ASR's not being assimilated.
Thanks Adam
Note to self - remove 0 size files from pushing to nomad for next obsproc release.
