How to encode varying RVR to IWXXM? #6

Closed zdKouba closed 1 year ago

If RVR varies significantly, it may be expressed as e.g. R01L/0600V1000FT in U.S. METARs. In this case we do not have the mean value of RVR at disposal. We have the lower (600FT) and upper (1000FT) limits of RVR instead. How such an RVR shall be converted to IWXXM, where only the mean RVR is defined? Shall 'meanRVR' be set to 183 (= equivalent of 600FT in meters) and 'meanRVROperator' to "above"?

If you wish to see how US FAA's filed differences with ICAO and supplemental data have been implemented into IWXXM METAR/SPECI messages, I kindly invite you to consult this document (see page 12 for how variable RVR data is handled) and an IWXXM XML example with variable RVR.

Please see this website for additional details.

If you have any other questions regarding non-Annex 3 content, US specific or otherwise, please let me know.

Zdenek,

I am pleased that you found the supplied information useful. I consider this issue closed then.

However, if you still have questions regarding how non-Annex 3 supplemental information and filed differences are encoded requiring the use of IWXXM <extension> elements feel free to re-open it.

V/R,
