Second generation vector plots #840

Reported by @AnsleyManke on 22 Jun 2010 22:54 UTC This ticket is a place to list things beyond the first-generation "get vector plots working" list of ticket 831. We might decide to move this ticket outside the LAS Vector Sprint of June 2010.

Items for XY plots

*For the second generation of vector plots it will be worth thinking about a mean/variance approach to calculating the default vector length -- say, choosing the default length based upon 2 standard deviations above the mean, or something of that nature.

*Are there problems or need for refinement of Ferret's standard Vector Decimation on native curvilinear plots? The /XSKIP and /YSKIP qualifiers can be set using input from the Options menu. What more is needed?

*Flowline style plots. Need options? Do we need Ferret changes for scaling the vector arrows? Currently the size of the vector arrows reflects the velocity. How about an underlay showing the speed?
