Google Earth product displays a nonsense color bar #997

Once again, using this dataset http://geoport.whoi.edu:8081/thredds/dodsC/coawst_2_2/fmrc/coawst_2_2_best.ncd

I request a full region salinity plot, and then ask for that on Google earth, I get a nonsensical color bar associated with the plot on google earth. The color bar goes from 1E+38 to -1E+38.

This may be related to ticket 990, because it does seem to be related to how much land is part of the selected region.
