I have been looking at the intersection of the OADS format and our existing CDIAC XML metadata. The OADS format lacks many of the tags we have been using in our metadata. Is there an accepted way that we can add these metadata tags as additional information? There appears to be a Supplemental information tag in the spec. Can we just throw a bunch of orphaned tags into this tag?

There is a "Detailed sampling and analyzing information" tag for each of the variables.

If there are tags you think are best stored as a separate tag, we might consider to add new tags to the OADS template, after consulting guidance from scientists.

@lqjiang It is okay for us to add subtags to the "Detailed sampling and analyzing information" tags? Maybe we can submit recommendations that @mooredcarbonpmel and SDIG will use with the metadata tool to ensure we're consistent.

I am currently mapping the OADS tags into our CDIAC tags. In general, our metadata is richer and more highly structured (OADS being a lot flatter). Once I have characterized your tags as having an equivalent in our our schema (or not), I will make a list of our tags that are not represented in your schema. We'll then have a better idea of what additional tags we might need.
