The Fall of the House Lynch Translations #376

Already in English and German. I'm translating to Spanish. It's preferable to have the original first edition MoM in order to use the official texts for story texts.

Translating localization file I found this entry WALTERLYNCH=Walter Lynch,,,,,,,, I supose it is a bug, there should be WALTERLYNCH,Walter Lynch,,,,,,,, I downloaded yesterday (3rd may).

I created this issue to get volunteers for translation to other languages (italian, french, polish). Added the issue in order to not create one only for this fix. I think you should leave it opened.

While someone is at it: The Fall of the House Lynch is lacking the use of {ffg:?} to translate tile names and items. But naming wise it would be better to have replacements like {tile:?} and {token:?}, {item:?} that dont rely on the ffg name. Or use just somthing like {s:?} and use naming conventions like {s:TILE.KITCHEN} and {s:ITEM.WHISKEY}. Also the last line with the countries seem to be redundant.

The last line with countries is a bug. You can remove it. The ffg prefix is used because these texts are still translated in the original app and we import it. There are all translated to all app languages and we don't need to translate again. In near future NPBruce wants to remove the ffg localization dependency and use our local dicionaries for every texts. At this moment we could split the ffg dictionary into smaller ones.

It's not included in the 1.1.0b. Was intended? is it a bug? I supose you need to update it in the donwload site

Not really intended, but I am not maintaining the development version downloads except to try out new features, so they should be considered unstable also, which is why it is a separate download source. I will update it now.

I's still not in Spanish. Sorry but I want to tell the Spanish community that version 1.1.0b gives the 2 included scenarios in spanish. That's why I'm looking for it

It should work now. Note that the prereleases are intended for testing and use of new features, most people should be using the stable 1.0.1.

Ok I will tell but they are asking for spanish scenarios from the begining. 😄

1.0.1 should be fully in Spanish, are there any issues with this?

No problem with spanish editor, but people asked for spanish scenarios. Not everyone want to create, they wanna play.

Yes that is what I mean, 1.0.1 should have the scenarios in Spanish (got it when you gave me the translation), only issue was I didn't update the dev build.

They use different branches for downloads so that I can test out things for 1.1 that don't affect the stable release.

There is a bug in german translation, a text with comma but without quotes the key is : EventEndWin1B.text

There is a translation wich causes confusion in my opinion: EventGardenLock.text,The door leading out to the Garden is sealed with a lock that will only open if you know the proper phrase. EventGardenLock.text,"Die Tür, welche nach draußen zum Garten führt ist mit einem Schloss versehen, welches sich nur öffnen lässt, wenn man die richtige Kombination kennt. Should be: EventGardenLock.text,"Die Tür, welche nach draußen zum Garten führt ist mit einem Schloss versiegelt, welches sich nur öffnen lässt, wenn man die richtige Kombination kennt. And I think "the proper phrase" confuses too, much more the German translation, because you need the right Sigil and no "phrase" or "Kombination".

Another one: TokenLabDoor.text,This door leads to the laboritory and through to the garden. At this floor tile is no garden the door leads directly to the lab. The German translation let you thin the door leads to the Garden and than into the lab. I don´t think you want to say at this point that it leads to the garden later ...!?

The translation of the item is wrong EventGetElderSign3A.text,Nimm den Gegenstand: Ältestes-Zeichen-Anhänger it should be "Medallion des Älteren Zeichens" <- original text on the German Card! I looked at the English file to know how it is written there and noticed that it contains only the reference to the items. Why is it in the German version different? EventGetElderSign3A.text,Take Common Item: {c:QItemPendant}.

And therefore this line could cause trouble maybe EventGetElderSign3B.text,{qst:EventGetElderSign3A.text}

You are right in all those places. When I translated it, I had no access to the boardgame at my place, so most of the item names where translated out of my head. It would be best to replace the item with the corresponding {ffg:?} replacement to avoid those problems. Also, I didn't run a spellchecker which is available as a plugin for Notepad++ (32 Bit version). That would've really helped avoiding typing mistakes. I will add the changes in.

TokenGardenDoor2BLocked.text,"Die Tür, welche nach draußen in den Garten führt ist verschlossen. Das Schloss lässt sich nur öffnen, wenn man das richtige Siegel besitzt.\n\nDieser Marker kann nur von einem Ermittler mit dem Gegenstand Silberner Schlüssel erkundet werden."

Tested the new version and some Item names are still wrong. EventGetElderSign3A.text,Nimm den Gegenstand: Ältestes-Zeichen-Anhänger -> Medallion des Älteren Zeichens EventClue2B.text,"Deine Sicht ... \n\nErhalte den besonderen Gegenstand: Kultsiegel" -> Kultistensiegel The translation of the item itself is right in valkyrie. Isn´t it possible to use the corresponding {ffg:?} replacement in a "text" to avoid those problems?

TokenLabDoor.text,"Diese Tür führt durch den Garten, in das Labor." If bruce want to tell the player at this point that there will be a garden AFTER the lab, than it should mean "Diese Tür führt durch das Labor in den Garten." otherwise only "Diese Tür führt in das Labor."

The reason is the Lab tile doesn´t have a garden. Placing the labtile need to be corrected too: EventExporeLabTile.text,"Platziere das Spielplanteil{MAD01}Laboratorium, wie gezeigt."

Yes, the players need to know that this is how you get to the garden for one of the clues. You can use the q:QItem and q:Tile notation to get the FFG translation, but this didn't exist when the translations were done.

Ok. Which clue is it, want to read the Text in the translation to understand it. Thought redwolf2 uses the q:QItem and q:Tile notation in the corrected file.

@Rass1968 Did you update your scenario? The text you mentioned should've been updated. Have a look in this file:

The lab tile don't have a garden, true, but one of the three rooms on it is leading to a garden tile. Thats why the text give away, that the maze of rooms behind the door is leading through a lab to a garden at the end.

Yes I did it in Valkyrie, deleted the Scenario and downloaded it again over the app, isn´t that the right way? You ae right with the garden tile but the German translation should be a little bit different (see my post above), my thought ;)

Yes, that should be the right way. I will test it myself later.

Since the last update, it should state:

TokenLabDoor.text,"Diese Tür führt durch das Labor, in den Garten."

The tile place event states:

EventExporeLabTile.text,"Platziere das Spielplanteil {ffg:TILE_LABORATORY_MAD01}, wie gezeigt."

where {ffg:TILE_LABORATORY_MAD01} will be replaced with the corresponding tile name. Since there are three rooms on that tile it might come out as something different than "laboratory", which might break the flavor of the explore token, that states "Labor". Is that your concern?

No, everything ok. Sry, didn´t saw that the text for the Garden is already changed too. But the download didn´t work.

Hmm, that should not be the case. The scenario was updated already.

You can manually download it here:

https://github.com/NPBruce/valkyrie-store/raw/master/MoM/TheFallofHouseLynch.valkyrie

And replace the existing file under

%appdata%\Valkyrie (copy & paste in a windows explorer window). Should lead you to C:\Users\<your windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Valkyrie

Somewhere in those folders you will find TheFallofHouseLynch.valkyrie. Replace that file.
