Add example with thermosiphoning

malcolm-dsider commented 1 month ago

All the closed-loop/AGS examples end up with the thermosiphon effect operating. Are you looking for a non-AGS example?

@malcolm-dsider Correct, looking for a non-AGS example (but thanks for clarification re: AGS)

The bottom line for thermosiphon is that you need a low-friction environment (AGS) or a high pressure differential between production and injection to push the fluid thru the high-friction environment associated with narrow, tortuous fracture pathways (EGS). The best way to get a high pressure differential is to have a high temperature for production and a low temperature for injection… which led me to look at the SHR examples. SHR-1 has an Average Pumping Power of 0 MW, suggesting this is a thermosiphon example.

Does that serve?

@malcolm-dsider Thanks for that explanation, very helpful - and great to know that we in fact already have an EGS thermosiphoning example I wasn't even aware of! I added a comment to example_SHR-1.txt referencing this discussion that will be included in whatever PR I make next (https://github.com/softwareengineerprogrammer/GEOPHIRES-X/commit/f043ca5ec9d416a363190bf1153013a8496f946c)
