For GeoIPS to fulfill its goal of being a transition vehicle to bring research results into
operations it is important to gain traction within the scientific community. Facilitating use of
GeoIPS within the scientific community requires outreach and training to increase awareness and
lower barriers to entry.
As use of GeoIPS grows within the scientific community, we have started some initiatives
to better engage with the community. For the last two years we have held an annual GeoIPS User
and Developer Workshop which consists of a large-group tutorial as well as one-on-one
development sessions. Additionally, we have created a public Slack workspace where the
community and developers can interact on a regular basis. We also hold weekly meetings that
community members are invited to attend where we discuss GeoIPS development and any
problems that the user community encounters.
