Design slick logo and banner for the website #8

We need a slick logo and banner for the website. Help wanted! :)

I would like to work on logo if you can provide me more info about how the logo should look like and what it should convey. Regarding banner, I think we better not to have as the website looks more modern without it. what do you think?

Hey Mazi awesome. Happy for you to help with the logo - I think we want to convey the relationship between Polar (so some relevant polar data); the CyberInfrastructure stuff (architectures, technologies, things like Tika, Nutch, etc.); and the DataViz components (D3, visualizing the polar data, etc.) So something that conveys that in a logo would be great.

As for the banner, I'm fine with that, but I think the font should be more compelling - right now it disappears into the background with the Earth and I don't think conveys the Polar and more generally the Arctic, etc., community. I think it would be great to get up some picture of the greenland ice sheet instead of the Earth picture in the background at the top, and I think we should add the down arrows to each section and then we should add an up arrow at the bottom to take someone all the way back to the top. Thoughts?

I'll work on getting some students at Parsons to help contribute to the design.

@chrismattmann and @aaronxhill I am working on this logo (have not finished yet), I tried to show polar section of Earth by some line chart (as may represent visualization). Feel free to use it (I can send the SVG file) or suggest how I can complete it.

@MBoustani What about a scroll spy for the sidebar? For mobile screens the popout is better, though.

@tpalsulich Do you have trouble using current side menu? It seems fine in my iphone.

Nope! No problems on a mobile device. But, on a large screen, it's odd clicking to open a side menu. Just being nit-picky. ;)

@aaronxhill would love to have some students contribute. @MBoustani did a great job on the initial site and he likes web design so he can help too. @MBoustani love the logo, keep going on it! @tpalsulich can you submit a PR with an update for the menu if you can improve it?

@aaronxhill & @MBoustani could you please loop me (katie) and Jihoon Kang in on your logo design. Jihoon would like to provide feedback and we'd like to work with you both to create a poster that we can have printed. It will be to provide a bit of overview for the event that we can display near the entrance to the event room. Let me know if you have any questions or need more info.

Yes this sounds great (and now I know that @piim is Katie! :) Awesome...we got you on Github after all! @MBoustani please yes loop in Jihoon and others. Katie can Jihoon register for Github and pass us his account info? Also would love your guys help on making a nice banner for the website and helping us to make it look nice? The source for the site is hosted here in Github.
