Every time I launch gddccontrol I get this error message:

This happens with or without options nvidia-drm modeset=1.

This bug has been there forever. This is a bug report against the proprietary driver (since reports at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/c/gpu-graphics/linux/148 are largely ignored).
Im seeing this issue too. Sadly nobody else seems to has a solution / workaround... for anyone coming across this: what helps sometimes:
