Would a high level description / documentation of what these scripts do (and what it still needs to do) be helpful here? (similar to what's in other .R files in the repo? This could borrow heavily from the readme if needed?

[x] maybe we include a 'future directions' section or 'know issues' to the header of each file? Maybe this is in a new document, or listed as issues in the repo?
