User Story

As a {community board member}, I want {to select the community board} so that {way i can see the community board demographics without having to select every single track}.

Otherwise, as a community board member, tell me the type of selection I need to make.

If there is enough demand for it, I could see a selection helper that would have pre-populated selections for each community district. So it wouldn't jump you to a profile, it would just add a community district's worth of tracts to your working selection, which you can continue to modify.

How does one indicated demand?

Through our research and interviews with Manhattan Community Board district managers and chairs, they all want better census demographics. I could provide you quotes but I doubt they will make comments here.

Not sure how this might work. Since CDs and Tracts are not contiguous, there will always need to be judgement calls made.

I made the following profile by selecting all the tracts that cross CD borders: https://popfactfinder.planning.nyc.gov/profile/7386/demographic

I did this quickly (I may have missed some) and found 113. Is there an agreed-upon CD assignment for each of these tracts?

The app was designed to help folks make (and share!) selections easily. On the selection view, under Advanced Options, you can turn on Community Districts to help make your selection. I know this isn't automated; it's not a one-click selection. But this selection only has to be made once by one person, then it can be shared with others. That is, until someone doesn't agree with the judgement call on whether or not a particular CD should include a Tract that crosses its border.

I'd be a quick & easy project for someone to make a profile for each CD and publish a list somewhere:
