A few hours in ...

"Hmm, I think I need some sort of macro system. Maybe words inside [square brackets] could be recursively substituted by some sort of dictionary..."

"Hmm, it would be nice if my macros could be parameterized somehow..."

I think this may be the true lesson of nanogenmo.

"Any sufficiently complicated C or Fortran program contains an ad-hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Common Lisp."

Ok, in my repo's README.md, I have uploaded a "novel" or rather, the very long and boring account of some restless, dumb, drunk, depressed and bored automatons moving aimlessly, without reason or motivation, about their sad, cookie-cutter planets via various ridiculous conveyances.
