Support for AWS Linux 2023 ARM processor #968

Open desylva opened 1 year ago

desylva commented 1 year ago

I don't seem to find documentation for AWS Linux 2023 with ARM processor support. Is it in the pipeline or will this will not be supported? Looking for a replacement for the now deprecated NRPE to keep using Nagios for monitoring services.

The little ARM support there was seems to have stopped with the 2.4.0 release.

I would like to see a return of ARM support in the future.

Hi @desylva - thanks for reaching out. We're currently focused on getting NCPA 3 released. Initial support will only include x64 for RPM/DEB-based Linux, Windows, and Macintosh. We'll be evaluating what other distributions and architectures we can support after release.

Looking for a replacement for the now deprecated NRPE

Pragmatically speaking, the deprecation notice on that repo may or may not hold in the long term. If NRPE is working for you guys, I probably wouldn't switch away from it until I ran into issues

ericloyd commented 1 year ago

The biggest problem with NRPE is that Nagios never made a Windows client for it, relying on the availability (and functionality) of NSClient++, which is a third-party, not technically supported Windows program. The vast majority of our customers look at that as something outside the Windows ecosystem and say "nope, can't run that because it's not going to be supported by our support contract with Nagios." NCPA is the wave of the future.

I don't think NRPE is supported on AWS Linux 2023 with ARM processor either. Further we have more and more instances running the AWS Linux 2023 as this is the recommended instance with long term support on AWS.
