Receiving a Deathlink from another game unconditionally kills Zagreus, completely bypassing any Death Defiances he has left. This feels really bad, and isn't how other games with a death-protection-mechanic (bottled-fairies in Legend of Zelda games) work.
I've opened a pull request (#13) with a change that should fix this.
