Desktop version? #27

Will there be any desktop version as I love the design and overall look and feel of mobile version and would love to use this on desktop devices like windows/linux/macos.

You can then also use an CI to automatically build and publish apps directly to releases so no manual uploading for all platforms.

No plans so far, as the whole UI is currently designed with mobile devices in mind, plus a lot of plugins the app depends on do not have desktop support yet.

Maybe in the future, but currently I want to focus on adding features and making improvements to the mobile experience first.

@prateekmedia Just a heads up, Flutter Desktop is still in beta.

Desktop version would be cool but you can just run it on Windows with an Android emulator, then you can experience it on desktop. Works beautifully on Windows Subsystem for Android and LDPlayer. Doesn't get past splash screen on Bluestacks unfortunately. Haven't tried any others yet.

Edit: Sadly, WSA will no longer be supported after March 5, 2025. Learn more at Microsoft/WSA (GitHub) and Microsoft Learn.

@DarkCrypt Still DioHub will not compete with Github Desktop in terms of UI for now when using with Windows Subsystem for Android, but yes It is usable

Agreed, I'm just a big fan of Android emulators. I'm impatiently waiting for the future updates like everyone else. When these do get pushed out, the app will be able to hold the title of "Ultimate Github Experience for Mobile" but not until then. V0.4 will be a big step toward that goal for sure and will be even better on WSA than it is now. Would you still rather have a desktop version anyway?

For now, I think Responsive Tablet UI does the trick.

Well, wasn’t expecting to have an update to this issue, but yes, the project builds for macos, should also build for windows and linux (haven’t tested them yet though).

I might include builds for them with dev releases for the android and (soon) iOS versions, and if they’re stable enough, I could also see into putting them on the respective stores for the platforms.
