Hi.

Seems the people behind this project want to develop the "Arduino" of dog walking robots based on this words from the project site: https://stanfordstudentrobotics.org/pupper

Stanford Pupper is a (relatively) inexpensive robot designed to help K-12 and undergraduate students get involved in exciting robotics research.

Is there any chat where the development is discussed so I can follow and learn? On my OpenSource project of Ebikes, we are using Gitter for this so this is my suggestion: https://gitter.im/OpenSource-EBike/community

I am not student of K-12, in fact I have 40 years old and I want to learn the technology used on this robot because I would like to have one big to follow me when walking/running/biking on the mountains and carry some small and light load that I need for myself. I am being developing OpenSource knowledge and firmware for EBikes / electric bicycles and in future I also want to develop as OpenSource ELegs / electric legs (exoskeleton) with focus on sports, to go out walking and running on mountains as I do today by riding with my ebike. I am sure by learning walking robot like this one will help for future development of ELegs.

Oi casainho,

the doc says there is https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/stanford-quadruped but I can't access it at the moment.

With spotmicroai.org we use slack. I see you have big targets. But I fear the professional motors you will need will cost much too much - at least for pour me :)

casainho commented 4 years ago

@sffranke many thanks!! I didn't know yet that project and I am loving the documentation like for simulation and kinematics, I need to learn all of that!!

https://spotmicroai.readthedocs.io/en/latest/kinematic/

As for ELegs project, I have also low money but at least I am an electronics engineer so it is strategic to me to learn this technologies as also make my own ELegs!! -- I think I will need to create the OpenSource project since there is no one and I known it has a lot of value for the users that want to run / walk for sports but can't, users will able to take out value for themselves once a week or more, considering they will be able to go run every weekend. This technology may be expensive but should be fast to take out value of it.

These projects described here come close to what you want? https://stanfordstudentrobotics.org/robots

FYI -- this PupperPythonSim repository contains the source code for our Pupper project which is listed on that page. It's a great place to start; please let us know if you have questions.

As far as an actual chat discussion channel we do not have one yet, but we may consider creating one. Till then feel free to post here.

Thank you for sharing Pupper! Is it possible to use a Pi 3? Is there some information concerning the wireing?

f-e-l-i-x commented 4 years ago

The real time kernel didn’t work when I tried it on the rpi 3, but worked immediately on the rpi 4

sffranke commented 4 years ago

Thank you, is the real time kernel essential? The instructions say its optional.

f-e-l-i-x commented 4 years ago

It might not matter, go ahead and try and then tell us

I built the hardware first, I hope to be able to tell you how the real time kernel works for me soon

Any updates @f-e-l-i-x ? I'm about to build one for myself, now playing around with simulator. How are the servos that you are using? They are about half the price of CLS6336HV

f-e-l-i-x commented 4 years ago

I cannot recommend the DS3218, I have now ordered the CLS6336HV. They can be bought almost as cheaply as the DS3218 if you buy directly from the manufacturer or from aliexpress.
