How to code literature records of specimens in DwC #4077

Description:

I am wondering what DwC term to use for taxon locality records scraped from the literature. For example, Smith & Smithers (1985) report Species A was found in localities X,Y,Z. In this case there are no specimen collections, just reports.

In order to have these records mapped on the scratchpad, I need to have them coded as Specimen/Obs and related to locations. The nearest basis of record term seems to be 'Checklist'. Does anyone know if that is the best term to use? Many of the publications these records are taken from are not really checklists, so it seems like a more broad term like 'literature record' would be more accurate. I could of course make a new term, but would prefer to stick to DwC where possible.

Hi Eli, as far as I know the most up-to-date definitions are here https://code.google.com/p/darwincore/wiki/RecordLevelTerms but are not particularly helpful for this example.

If there is no specimen data I would categorise it as "Other Specimen" and put information in the remarks field.
