Please also add the taxonomic rank “subterclass” to the dropdown field “Rank”, between taxonomic ranks “infraclass” and “superorder”. We have subterclasses in use, e.g., Eugnatha and Colobognatha. I cannot record those without the “subterclass” rank.
Overview Expansion of the ITIS data model to include zoo-rank "superspecies". Superspecies names are regulated by the ICZN. They are available names and also a subject of the Principle of Priority. They should be recorded in taxonomic databases.
Give a brief description of what the feature or improvement should do and why. For zoological classifications, rank "Superspecies" should be visible in the taxonomic editor, in the drop-down menu "Rank", between rank "Subgenus" and rank "Species". Superspecies are interpolated names. As such, their display should behave as that of the subgenus: Superspecies must be entered without parentheses but must be displayed within parentheses. For relevant regulations and guidance see the ICZN, Article 6.2, Recommendation 6B, and ensuing Example.
Possible Solutions Do you have any ideas for how you'd want to implement it? This has to be implemented from the developers' end. The ITIS data model is hard-coded in Scratchpads.
Something else? I have new aggregates of species published in 2020. Without the feature I cannot complete the recording. There is also a backlog of aggregates from previous years.
