Scratchpads mini-meeting #6531

Open Archilegt opened 2 years ago

Archilegt commented 2 years ago

We have little awareness of fellow scratchpadians out there, their problems and solutions. Having a 1- or 2-day online mini-meeting of Scratchpads users would be immensely helpful for networking. I think that many solutions have been implemented by scratchpadians, and that it is time to socialize them to our community. For example, I was thinking of creating a Collections content type myself, but I see that something similar has been advanced at https://phthiraptera.myspecies.info/collection. That is the sort of things that we need to share, as well as documentation (tutorials) on how to replicate solutions which are not standard Scratchpads modules. Please, organize a mini-meeting of Scratchpads users.

Sounds great to me. It would also be an opportunity to inform some of us about the current capabilities of Scratchpads and work underway so that we can be ambassadors for Scratchpads and to look for alignment opportunities as well.

Very encouraging initiative @Archilegt thank you!

I'll be here to support it with continuing issues support, long term performance improvements, and writing documentation.

I would love to have a meeting discussing this issue!! Very very useful!!!

a Scratchpad Slack channel would be great, any word on the status of that?

Archilegt commented 2 years ago

@yannbuck Hi, Ariane. I don't use Slack much. I joined the TaxonWorks channel there, but I haven't looked into it for some time now. Anyway, I am happy to have a way to chat online. Please, feel free to start a Scratchpads Users channel. We can then post the link on our Facebook group.

@debpaul Hi, Debbie. It would be great to have you with us if there is an event. Maybe we could indeed have it as part of TDWG in the future, but I think that maybe there is too little time to arrange it as a TDWG session this year. @therobyouknow, nevertheless, it would be good to ask Vince about it. I could contribute one presentation, and I am quite sure that the community will show up for presenting and networking. Debbie, for the Slack channel, see reply to Ariane above. I don't think that there is a Scratchpads hashtag in use, but I guess that #Scratchpads and #ScratchpadsVRE would do. VRE = Virtual Research Environment. I think that I didn't forget anything. Cheers! :)

@Archilegt -- to clarify -- TaxonWorks and the Species File Group uses Gitter -- which is similar to Slack -- but linked to GitHub. Also Gitter is now essentially "Matrix." TDWG does have a Slack workspace.

Archilegt commented 2 years ago

@debpaul , apologies for the confusion. That gives a good idea of how much time has passed since I last showed up on Gitter. ;) Kind regards, Charlie
