I quite liked using https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=110071772 for quickly switching between common tools. Its a simple radial menu that runs user-defined concmds, which usually was for switching tool_current but could also do anything else console can.
It may be particularly useful in VR, where the full Q-menu is likely unergonomic.
