Wii crashes while playing xvid over smb #102

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Playing any xvid file over smb has caused this problem. Sometimes the 
error occurs after a few minutes sometimes after half a hour, sometime I 
can even watch a tv show without it crashing. The crashes seem completely 
random

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I receive a black screen and my wii starts producing a high pitch annoying 
constant beeping sound. The only way to close the wii down at that point is 
to keep the power button pressed on the wii till the led turns red

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Using Windows Vista X64 & 0.3a

I´ve the exactly same problem. My Wii bios is 3.3U. Perhaps Issue 768 is 
related

same thing playing avi files via usb and smb share. random time black screen, 
freeze, annoying high pitch looped sound.
menu 3.4e, player v0.4wide (same things with v0.3a).
strange thing is the very first time i load mplayer i watched two episodes of 
my tv 
drama straight: two hours w/out any issue, skipping file back and forth...

Exact same thing happens for me, same setup as you.
0.2 0.3 0.4 all freeze up with loud buzzing usually within 5 minutes in.
Unusable

I have this problem using the "Server" as Ubuntu 9.04 and also Windows XP SP3.

Sounds like fixed now on 0.75 version (using ubuntu as file server)

All samba playback/crashing issues are resolved for me as of 0.75
