I had a similar problem to this. If I had a share listed in the smb.conf that I
wasn't actually sharing from my vista PC than mplayer ce 0.75 would freeze
either
when I selected smb from the file menu or smb1 or smb2 if I got that far.
Removing
the listing I wasn't sharing anymore solved the issue for me. So as long as
active
shares are only listed in my smb.conf it seems to work normally. As a note in
previous versions the non active shares didn't seem to cause any issues.

I experienced this issue when I specified the IP of a machine that had SMB
shares but
did not specify the correct sharename. That was user error on my part, but
hopefully
this helps someone having the same symptoms.

I am having this same problem.
As soon as I edit the SMB mplayerce becomes unusable. I can usualy get past
the File
option but it always freezes on the menu. I only have 2 folders shared in the
smb
and they are written out correctly.
I had to install 0.72 to get it to work and using the same setting it works
fine.
Just tried installing 0.75 again today and bang it freezzes instantly.
