Connecting to Airport Extreme SMB sharing #542

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Configure USB disk on airport extreme in every 3 ways possible (Airport
password,using disk
password, with accounts). I can see my shared folder in my mac and my pc in
every
configuration.
2.Edit the smb.conf on wii, with the options allowed
3.Get error reconnecting smb

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
See my files in the shared directory.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Using airport extreme, wii 4.1, mplayer-ce 0.76

Do you have a modchip?
No

Please provide any additional information below.
The report on Airport show:

Dec 02 09:43:24 Gravedad:3  SMB/CIFS login failed from T%<nodomain>@192.168.1.24.
Dec 02 09:43:24 Gravedad:3  SMB/CIFS login failed from W%<nodomain>@192.168.1.24.

Note: (192.168.1.24)-->Wii

The letter before <nodomain> change depends on what disk share configuration i
use in the
airport disk share

When i connect from the pc (directly via smb, without any mac stuff ;)) the
airport reports:

Dec 02 09:44:28 Gravedad:5  SMB/CIFS login OK from t%PC@192.168.1.22.

I tested a lot of smb.conf configurations like:

#Samba share1  (smb1:/)
ip1=192.168.1.20
share1="Share"
user1=user
pass1=pass

#Samba share2  (smb2:/)
ip2=192.168.1.20
share2="Share"
user2=WII\user
pass2=pass

Does anybody can connect to an Airport shared usb disk?

BTW: I tested sharing a folder on my mac or my pc and watch movies on the wii,
and it works,
but i want to do it directly from the airport connected disk.

Thanks (sorry for my poor english)

do quiang0 suggestion also clear or remove or rename ftp.conf, then you will
have
only 1 wifi connection if don't work then I'll do a samba test program to try to
debug the error.
I'm sure the problem is in libtinysmb, this lib is very very simple and
incomplete.
Maybe someone can port smbclient from linux ;)

I'm using one network connection from the wii and is experiencing the same
issue. I am trying to connect to an
Apple Time Capsule (likely some smb/cifs stack at the airport extreme).

I will help with testing if someone can provide help.
Thanks!

and fix your wii ip address, DON'T use dynamic ip (dhcp)

I tried rodries solution, following suggestions above, and I think he made a
little step forward.
Now I can authenticate on Airpot Base, but after that MPlayer crashes at next
button pressed on wiimote.
I checked the log on Airport Base and it states the login was ok. On Wii are
returned error codes, too many
numbers to write them down here. But a took a photo to the screen, should it be
useful.
You can see the picture here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/filvent/ErroreWii?authkey=Gv1sRgCLr6w8-Hw5aXOg&feat=
directlink
I hope it will help.
My Wii has System menu 4.0E and no modchip. MPlayer works great on direct
attached USB disk.
Bye,
Filippo

filvent,
when do you have the crash? accessing to your samba? do you see the directory
files?
are you using special chars in your dirs?
I have to send you specials versions of mplayer to get info about your Airport
and a few test programs, so contact me by email (rodries@gmail.com) or in the
irc
channel (irc://irc.efnet.net/mplayer_ce)

Today Apple released a new Airport Extreme and Time Capsule firmware update.
I will check MPlayerCE with the new firmware and will let you know if there is
any changes.

it works!!!
Very good job!!!
It still has some issues, but I can now connect to my SMB shares on a Airport
Extreme Disk and I can play
videos. For now I only tried to access FAT32 partitions, but I think this
doesn't matter to MplayerCE, but only
to AE. Anyway I will test other file systems, just to find out if they works.
I will check in next days if crashes occur during long playing, at the moment I
could just test if videos start to
play, and they do.
Usually the first time I try to access SMB share, MPlayerCE returns a
connection error or an error dump, as
previous betas. After restarting MPlayerCE usually it connects and works.
When I will have more testing data I will report them here, should they be
useful for future releases.
If you need any more information, please ask me.
Thank you for the excellent work you made!

please make a pcap file installing wireshark in your pc and copy a file from

maybe I can create a samba test program to log the communication, ping me if
you want
to help me improving airpot support to wii

I've done a tcpdump while smbmounting and copying a file from my "time capsule"
to my
mac.
maybe you can do something with this.

I can confirm filvent experience, that i need 2 tries to connect with my wii,
but
then it works as expected.

if you need anything else? let me know, maybe someone with a wired WII
connected to a
hub could do a tcpdump when the connection error is occuring.

but i don't have the ethernet adaptor for the wii.

thx for all the effort rodries!

Do you mean the dump returned by the wii? I don't have the latest version dump,

previous version (dated late march, I think march the 30th). You can find it

unfotunely I can't provide a tcpdump of wii-airport communication.
However I tried the new beta and it seems to work very well.
The only issue I found is that, the first time I access the first share just an
empty screen appear (just MPlayerCE
background). Then I just have to press B button to go back and I can access
every shares without problems.

filvent I've fixed the codedump, but I don't know why the first time you access
to your
airport the smb client return 0 files, that's the codedump reason, I can do an
ugly
hack trying to reopen the directory if the first time return 0 files, but I'd
like to
fix it properly
The dol with the ugly hack, test and comment:

rodries,
it seems to work.
Now I can access my share without need to go back and in again.
I'm sorry that I can't help to fix the client properly. Should you write a test
program
to investigate the issue I will be happy to run it and return results.
Thank you for your great job, now my brand new 1.5TB hard drive attached to my
Airport Base is
populating with my movies and series. :-)

Hello all,

Sorry to re-awake this thread but I too have a very similar problem when trying
to connect via SMB to a Time Capsule. I have tried
everything in this thread, I have updated to the newest Time Capsule firmware
and have downloaded the hacked .dol file posted
by rodries on Apr 14.

Samba works no problem when connecting to my mac book pro, but it would be a
great improvement to be able to access the
video files directly from my Time Capsule, thus being independent of the laptop
when watching films.

Perhaps filvent could tell me exactly what he has entered in the smb.conf file?
 My two entries look like this:

#Samba share1  (smb1:/)
ip1=192.168.2.1
share1=Video
user1=
pass1=

#Samba share2  (smb2:/)
ip2=192.168.2.1
share2=Video
user2=User Name
pass2=pass

I have also tried with just one Samba entry, but to no avail.

According to my mac key chain access my user name for the TIme Capsule is two
words seperated by a space. So I tried
enclosing my user name in quotation marks, for example i have tried user2:"User
Name".

My password for the TIme capsule is a single word. The time Capsule appears to
be set up to allow every client read&write
access.

What am i doing wrong??!!!

Any pointers would be GREATLY appreciated.

Rich.

PS: Thank you for a GREAT product. I use MPlayer_CE so much, i cant live
without it any more. It would be just so so sweet if i
could access my Time Capsule directly...

RichUsher, did you check your TC access policy?
You have to use disk password option for protecting your data on TC and leave
blank user name in smb.conf
What is the exact behavior of MPlayer CE when you try to access your TC? And
what is logged on TC?
Through the log we could see if problem is authentication or something else.
Let me know.

try
ip3=192.168.2.1

user3="User Name"
pass3=pass

also tell me you mac book ip address & wii ip address to be sure all ips are in
the
same range
if doesn't work I'll give you a samba test program
but I need your samba server config, are you sure you are using an user &
password?

hi guys,
many thanks for the tips and sorry for the delay in replying.

In the end, after playing with the Time Capsule settings it all started
working. Instead of disk password as
suggested by filvent I'm currently connecting using my "Time Capsule password"
and network user name.  IP
Address is 192.168.2.1, which i have set as a fixed ip address.

It connects no probs, but crashes more often than when connecting over the
macbook pro. If i pause for any
significant length of time (>1min) then its almost guaranteed to crash. It
stack dumps and reboots after the
8secs. It hardly ever does this when connecting to the macbook.

In the meantime i've discovered rodries other project, WiiMC, which is
fantastic. Thank you. Here the smb
connection to the TC worked like a dream, but i still get much more regular
crashes than when connecting to
the mac book. Similar thing happens after long pauses using Wii MC.

If u need me to do any tests let me know.

thanks for two great projects,
R

Filvent, Rodries, RichUser....

Hopefully people are still checking out this thread. It's the only thing I have
found near to what I'm looking for. I'm a noob, just hack my Wii (at the
assistance of a friend) yesterday. Well...I have a Time Capsule, in which I
currently have all my Music, Videos and Pictures. I usually run things from
here to my macbook that I connect to my tv to view.

Now with the purchase of the Wii, I would like to have my Wii pull files from
my Time Capsule in the same way in order to play Music, Videos and look at
Pictures.

Question -
1. Is this possible to do? Can it be done wirelessly or via the USB port?
2. If it is possible can someone provide me with a step by step noob guidance?

PS...Here is my direct email so to send me info and remain in dialoge.
chamgea@gmail.com
PSS...I'm pretty family with how to access my AirportUtility so I am able to
access my Time Capsule info. So, if you can give me instructions from this
point that would be great, thanks to anyone that can help me!
