I asked about this before. Push-to-talk already exists for desktop mode, and when I questioned if it could be added for VR mode, I got this response from Frooxius (on 13 August 2021):
It's only for desktop right now. For VR we don't have free buttons available, so it's a bit trickier to implement there.

that makes a lot of sense I can see that perspective maybe a toggle mute is more feasible like double tap the A button to mute

If we get a generalized custom button mapping system as per #1314 it may be more possible to implement this.
In the meantime, there are probably custom solutions that users could implement to fit the needs of this issue.

in VR mode if you want to mute your mic you have to go to your menu directly which could be a little inconvenient having a button would be way easier I am not that educated on VR inputs but a toggle mute/push-to-talk would be amazing in VR Mode
