I mean yeah, the word "metaverse" has certainly gained a negative reputation as of the past year or so. But Neos has referred to itself as a metaverse for quite a while, changing it now would be quite unusual.

well I despise the word "metaverse" now and the new logo doesn't even have "metaverse" on it so it's already somewhat being done and most people referred to Neos as Neos.
the reason why I am so tired of the word "metaverse" it's because it's so overused like Wendy's has a metaverse now Walmart and they are all associated with NFTs in some way some form that's why I am so tired of the word
Neos refers to itself as a metaverse engine if I'm not mistaken, not a metaverse. And I personally always found that rather fitting. I don't see why this should be changed, sure it's overused as of recently, but like, most people have a general idea what it's about when they hear the word, so I think it's still accurate.
I feel that, due to the recent media attention the phrase has gotten and the connotation that it brings along, it would be in the best interest of the project to distance itself from the metaverse hypretrain. The thought of changing even though neos had been using the term long before it flew into the mainstream might sting a little. But potential new users are too likely to be offput by the branding and those attracted to it would be dissapointed to find out that the servers aren't hosted on the blockchain or that your inventory isn't an nft art gallery.
The current term “metaverse” is an existing and established term used to refer to the type of engine that Neos represents. Given the term’s long history of usage in Neos and its well-known meaning outside of Neos, its utility as an adjective/descriptor likely outweighs any negative associations it may impose on the product/platform.
its not going away, no matter how much you want it to. its staying. deal with it.
when people hear the word "metaverse" what major platforms pop into your head decentraland the sandbox those are really popular and a lot of people know them as a metaverse and they're both associated with crypto and NFT's and that could make
people assume that NEOS since it's called a metaverse they could think you could buy land and NFTs and drive them away from the platform because
they think the entire game is filled with NFT Bros but in reality it's not so separating Neo's from that term would be preferable
@MrWashbear is correct people will think NEOS is a NFT art gallery but in reality it's not
