SD card is a pig to solder #22

It's just about doable, but it's not easy at all. A nice through-hole part, or something with at least 2mm pitch, would be much better.

Maybe something like https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/Amphenol-Commercial-Products/GSD090012SEU?

I bought a full-size SD card holder, and you cannot get it and the two DE9 connectors inbetween the mounting holes. It also doesn't fit outside the mounting holes.

We either: 1) Stick with microSD 2) Move to full-size SD but make the card internal (i.e. not externally accessible) 3) Change the case

Option (4) occurred to me today.

  1. Ship a second small PCB which takes a full-size SD card and sits on two 1x6 headers. These headers straddle the mounting screw, allowing the SD card to sit above the mounting screw.

Like this (https://proto-pic.co.uk/product/sdmmc-card-breakout/) but with the headers either side, not at the rear.

Something like this (https://proto-pic.co.uk/product/sparkfun-prt-12769-sd-mmc-socket/) should be easy to solder and is quite inexpensive.

Even better idea, just use the micro SD adaptor from PJRC!
