Hang when remote shell opened with "-e" is closed unexpectedly

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to a remote host with "mintty -e ssh <host>"
2. Close the network connection e.g. by entering standby (or simply kill the 
ssh process either locally or on the host).

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect mintty to exit gracefully. Instead it hangs and consumes cpu.

What versions of mintty, Cygwin/MSYS, and Windows are you using?
Mintty 0.8.1-1
Cygwin  1.7.6
Windows XP Professional Ver 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3

Please provide any additional information below.
I didn't have this issue a month or so ago, so I guess that it was introduced 
with Mintty 0.8.1.

Broken in r911. Fixed in r981 on branches/0.8.
