This reverts commit c72e465993abb8320606bf6341d23ca0691d2ba9, reversing changes made to bae5c36f37dd8838db83400fc46c8204d69ce6da.

Now that I know more about the branching and release strategies, I'm going to revert this change for the moment and return master to it's previous state. Meanwhile there is a branch open for 2.x and I'll follow up with one for 1.x
