Currently it is just part of the spark helper. For some use-cases it would be helpful independently.

Plan is to stop relying on prana in the future for non-jvm languages and current support is good enough for now. General complaints:

Overhead is too high (evcache)
Monitoring the wrong JVM (cassandra, spark, mantis)
Assumes 1-1 mapping with source (spark, mantis)
Doesn’t work for more transient tasks (lambda)
Lack of independent controls (spark, mantis)
Counter drift (client teams)
Inefficient HTTP API (several users)
Incomplete HTTP API (several users)

Still working through some of the details for the replacement.
