In your report you refer to the rail line as CP Rail and I think it should say CN Rail.

There is more recent information on coho stocks – your report included information up to 2001 which is quite outdated. Escapements reached a maximum of 1897 coho in 2014 with a rapid decline in escapement occurring since 2018. The escapement in 2021 was only 136 coho. This means that barriers to adult migration are a very high priority and barriers and disturbances to juvenile migration corridors and habitats may be increasing negative impacts on salmonid survival.

In the background section of Station Creek, there is a sentence that should be revised. Beaver control activities on Station and Waterfall Creeks by CN Rail upstream of crossing 124420 may have been the cause of the 2017 flood event (pers comm. Brenda Donas, Chicago Creek Restoration Society).

Could you please amend that to say may have been a contributing factor to the severity of the flood event. That flood event was a rain on snow event with significant precipitation. My point was that if the wetland/beaver dam complex at CN Mile 48 had not been disturbed, the original water storage capabilities of that area may have reduced the impacts of that flood event. Our Society is trying to rebuild relationship with CN Rail i.e. post coal spill and we do not want to be part of statements that put blame on CN without having concrete, un-refutable data to support what we are saying – which at this time, we do not have.
