Part is more than likely rated too low. Look into replacing with 2A part and surface mount.

Measurements showed draw in excess of 1A happen infrequently at boot. Maximum draw was 1.3A with a 100us duration. John H. and I don't think this is an issue so we've agreed to use the 1A DC/DC Regulator.
