Bug Report - Crash: Crash from new installed game #6197

Vortex Version: 1.2.9 Memory: 15.95 GB System: win32 x64 (10.0.18363) I have tried several things, Latest is a new install of mountain blade bannerlord. There is no mods installed. and i also tried a reinstall of vortex I open vortex and errors pop up

Hi ChickenCasual, it appears Vortex is unable to find your staging folder which is set to "D:\Votexmountandblade2bannerlord\" can you confirm that the directory is actually there ?

Any chance that's a directory junction ? or is D:\ a removable/network/virtual drive ?

Does this error get raised as soon as you start up Vortex ? (we have a start up check in place which should've notified you that the directory is missing)

I made a clean reinstall.

Hey I kinda fixed it im not entirely sure tho. The directory D:\ is an NVME drive The way I fixed it is: Uninstall vortex and Bannerlord. Reinstall. Then Vortex sadly still remember what addons. I guess it look at nexusmod history. Vortex at this point would still not work. Then I added the mods again, by manualy drag it into Vortex. Then it gave me a prompt saying something about dismissing prior install point. I said yes to that and all was well. I had to do it for all the mods one by one tho. Now i just have to get Vortex to put the mods in the correct place, so i dont have to move them manually after unpacking. Prior to the entire issue I had mods installed manual, I tried Vortex, and as now could not get it to install the mods in the correct folder. Then I uninstalled Vortex and since some of my mods crashed the game, I removed them. Then i installed Vortex again and the issue began.

I think your issue is down to a misunderstanding of how Vortex works; When you install mods which you've downloaded from the website (or added manually); these files are placed inside Vortex's staging folder which is where we hold all extracted/unpacked mods. Once you've enabled your mods in the mod page and clicked the deploy button - all enabled mods will be deployed to the game's mods folder.

To confirm whether it had deployed correctly, simply open the game mods folder

Hi @ChickenCasual, lets try something different if possible. Can you please backup your mod archives somewhere safe before doing this.

  1. First of all - please hit the "purge mods" button to remove everything that Vortex may have deployed.
  2. Uninstall Vortex and rename your "%appdata%/Vortex" folder to something else "%appdata%/Vortex_backup".
  3. Go to your game's modules folder and backup/remove any manually added mods. Your modules folder should only have the official modules left: image
  4. Re-install Vortex and manage your game as you usually do (Leave the default downloads/staging folders as they are)
  5. Take your backed up mod downloads and drag/drop them into Vortex's drop zone and wait for them to transfer.
  6. Install and enable your mods and click the "deploy mods" button.

At this point all should be deployed and running as expected - can you please confirm this by going to your game's mods folder and get back to us to let us know about your progress.

Tanks for alle the help. Many of the purge things i could not do, since the error message came when I opened Vortex. I got the issue fixed. I downloaded the mods manual again and dragged them into Vortex then i got the prompt and could purge. I was not able to do that manual before since the menus mods and load order was not showing.
