WMR controller mappings in .8 #113

Just tried the .8 release that supposedly adds VR controller support, however it does not appear to be working for WMR controllers (I am using the Odyssey) also the thumbsticks do nothing, would be nice to be able to use these for movement and the trackpad for face buttons and dpad, this way no controls are omitted.

I do plan on supporting SteamVR thumbstick input for WMR/Knuckles etc here soon, but this release mainly focused on getting the Vive controller working for SteamVR. Do the WMR controllers do anything at all for you, or are they doing absolutely nothing?

The trackpads work for movement, menu navigation is a bit wonky though.

I haven't tested it yet, but since the trackpad is working, you should be able to use Fishbiter's Joystick mod. It works for all other games I have tried, including mods. Read through the whole thread, will help in case of troubleshooting.

You may have to edit the settings ini, as explained here:

Edit: I tested it, and the joysticks do work with the above mod. But there are other problems. Dunno how to describe this, but it seems the sensitivity is off. Sometimes turning is slow (with smooth turn enabled), sometimes really fast, regardless of how far you push. It seems to do that a little with an Xbox controller too, so maybe it's not the WMR controller causing it. Unfortunately running is very difficult to do whilst using the joystick, because it is bound to a click on the touchpad. If it we could rebind it somehow to grip or something, that would work. A big problem I noticed is that the grip buttons don't work for opening doors with the maintenance jack,. So for now, it seems about 70% playable on WMR.

As another WMR user, I thought I'd add a couple of clarifications: the menu "wonkiness" is because the menu responds to touch-slide/tap on the pad as well as actually depressing the pad in a given direction. So when you are selecting the option it's possible to trigger an up or down when you are just trying to depress the center of the pad.

In the game these let you strafe around, that's it (It also causes instant motion sickness for me - looks like I need strafe-teleport :/ )

The only problem i found with my odyssey is that I cant turn on the flashlight, the head action movement is not working, and the object menu closes as soon as its opened.

By the way the xbox one gamepad looks like is not working with samsung odyssey at all..

Although I haven't tried the flashlight as I'm trying "Last Survivor) its the same for the Xbox 360 controller too on my Odyseey WMR headset, the RS stick click crouch doesn't work. If I try with an Xbox One controller instead, crouch works, but the Motion tracker on the bumper buttons won't come up instead.
