Project is abandoned? #150

Hi Nibre, first of all, thanks for all your work so far on MotherVR and releasing it to all of us. It seems to me that you don't want to develop MotherVR any more. Would you mind releasing the source code so that others can continue developing it in your place? I would really appreciate this.

All the best

I don't think the project is abandoned. Perhaps some patience is required?

The project is anything but abandoned, Nibre has just released the update for the touch controllers. This is much more than other developers at Github can achieve. Know some VR mods where there is no update since almost two years. It has to be said that Nibre has always made itself a little rare in the forum. Apparently he doesn't like to post and prefers to concentrate on the project. That's a good thing! I hope we will expect great things from him in the future, like the long-awaited implementation of touch gestures or a little roomscale (crouch in real life).

Feared-Punto commented 5 years ago

I think anyone who suggests that this is abandoned hasn't really been paying attention to the project.

cheater commented 5 years ago

This is not a forum, this is a bug tracker. I see bugs that haven't been addressed or even acknowledged for months. Whether the developer "makes themselves rare in the 'forum'" is how people will see the project. I don't know what "update for touch controllers" you're talking about - there hasn't been a new release of MotherVR since November.

...and when was the release before that?

Midnightmaster commented 5 years ago

This isn't a million dollar project like Fortnite, where hundreds of programmers sit and knock out an update every few days. Nibre is a one man army and does a good job for something that's free. With such projects, it is common to have several months between releases. Especially since Nibre has an additional problem because he never got a source code from Creative Assembly and has to do everything with reverse engineering. There's no need to rush into anything at the moment: The mod now works wonderfully and is very playable. I played the game completely with it without any problems.

Look guys all those comments are not the audience for the bug report I posted here. This is a communication issue that I filed for the developer to be aware of. Your opinions are nice, and I'm glad you have them, but they're not the purpose of a bug tracker. Please keep it calm. This isn't a soapbox for polemics. I decided that, in my opinion, there's no communication from the maker of this mod, and I decided to let them know. If you don't like it, there's nothing you can do about it, because I'm not changing my mind, and you can't force the developer to communicate more often. Again, this isn't a forum, and this isn't a chat room either.

cheater commented 5 years ago

And as far as the mod being playable, well you're welcome to swing around and see how it's playable on my computer - there's a bug report that hasn't been touched in weeks, and other people have reported it impossible to play months ago. As much as "thanks for the report, I'll see if I can do something" would mean a lot to people.

I don't know guys, I am slowly started to agree with cheater, but still hope I am wrong too. I just started the game couple of months ago, but stopped to wait for the 1.0 release, but it seems it maybe never come. It would be nice if Nibre just says a "yes" or "no" if the project abandoned or not. Still grateful for the hard work what Nibre already done, it is a small miracle already!

cheater commented 5 years ago

what are you grateful for? this doesn't work ...

pettypetty7 commented 5 years ago

Are you going to finish the entire project if Nibre releases the source code?

Actually for me with Oculus Rift its working, but with minor issues (not really suporting 360, head-aiming, etc.), but still its really fun and immersive already. That is why I stopped playing, hoping this features comes soon with the 1.0. But my hopes are slowly fading sadly... :)

I am actually basing my entrance into the VR community on this project, so I hope it isn't abandoned! I absolutely LOVE this game on PS4, and all my other games have nothing but dust on them because I cant stop slaying playthroughs! I understand Nibre literally has to reverse-engineer the game FROM THE MACHINE LANGUAGE? That, if its true, is insane. It baffles me how he even figured anything out at all. However, I am REALLY hoping to see some posts of folks saying how great it is after the next update. So... I'm hoping there IS a next update still obviously. Waiting to buy a VR setup for my PC until then, and yeah, I'm aware that means I may never buy one. I'm ok with that- I honestly only want it for this game.

Well the game was already built with oculus rift in mind, they showed it at e3. They disabled it for the final release so he just found a way to enable it again. The amazing part is all the errors he fixed to make the VR experience better but sadly I think he's done

Great- hopefully people can stop clogging up my notifications with the constant "it's abandoned" stuff.
