Holding Breath + Leaning Back in Lockers/Cabinets #82

There is no visual indication that Ripley is leaning back and holding her breath when I follow the button prompts while using an XBox controller (L Trigger + R Stick). As a result I die horribly every time the alien inspects the locker I am in. Has this mechanic not been made VR compatible?

Nibre commented 6 years ago

It's possible that the game has broken this with VR. So I'll see what I can do

It would be great to use the headset microphone to know if we are holding our breath in real life... at least to have the option for those who want it... that would include me hehe. Arktika.1 uses the mic to make the character breath in-game and it feels great.

I think holding still would be a better mechanic that matches the 'holding breath' intention. So if he walks by, it could say like 'Hold your head still, to avoid detection'.

However it is implemented, there should be a positive feedback mechanism in place to confirm Ripley is holding her breath and leaning back. I haven't played the game in 2d, but I think there was some sort of HUD or screen element representing 'remaining breath.'

same here. Playing the "Crew Expendable" Mission and I am at the point where I need to wait in a locker for the Alien to enter the Air Lock. I am supposed to hold my breath and lean back but the Alien kills me no matter what I do. Oculus Rift, XBoxOne Controller. Any ideas?

Having similar issues with the Vive controllers. I get a message to hold down the LT to hold my breath, but apparently Amanda must have a whistling nostril or something because she gets found every time.

So I've tried LT, RT, LG, RG, both sides of each, both sides of both combined. I also once glimpsed an instruction to hold down LS (I think it was LS, it was definitely not LT), so I don't know if I got one of those combinations right and it was prompting me to do another?

Anyway, just got face-chomped about 2 dozen times in a row and figured maybe I should check here. Next time I'll try LT again and just holding real still in RL and not turning my head and see if I get that LS instruction again.

Same issue with Windows Mixed Reality, no prompt for holding breath or leaning back, and also can't seem to do either, which results in Alien killing you every time it passes you hiding in a locker.

Playing with valve Index controllers on SteamVR. I thought, maybe I just did not do it right in time and thought somone figured it out, but appearantly, it just is not implemented, yet, in the mod. Well, game was fun until I got to the point where this mechanic is needed.

Question: If playing this game 2D - is this mechanic only working when prompted, or can you hold the breath any time in a locker?

If it should be working any time, then there seems to be no way, tried nearly everything. If it is working only while prompted - well I am certainly not going to die a 100 times to the alien trying to figure it out - I'll rather wait until Nibre implements it then, even if this takes another year.

So ... There is still no solution to this problem, as I understand it?

After waiting for a fix that never came I eventually decided to try my luck again and after thinking it through actually found that it works! (If you know how) On keyboard, the combination to lean back + hold breath on Keyboard is S (move backwards key) + Right mouse button (button that also aims the gun) If you are using a controller or use movement, do NOT use the inputs you expect from controller like playing on console. What you have to do instead is using the equivalent inputs to keyboard functions, i.e. you have to hold the down position on the analog stick for movement + whatever button is your aiming button.

Tested with the last release 0.81 from December 2020 in SteamVR both with keyboard and with Valve Index controllers (in this case it is left analog stick down + Right controller grip or A-button, which is mapped to right controller grip in default legacy settings).

I cant test it on xbox controller, however.

There is no visual indication that you are leaning back, but you know its working:

Hope that helps anyone who still decides to play this after that long time.
