Re-think format of ALT text #615

I have a degenerative retinal disease, so my vision is pretty bad. It's not bad enough for me to have to rely on a screen reader all the time (I can still make do with a screen magnifier), but it is bad enough that I often struggle to interpret images, so I do have to rely on ALT text.

But the way Sengi currently displays ALT text as a mouse-over tooltip makes it very difficult to read, even at a high magnification level, because when I magnify, the tooltip goes away, and then I have to move the mouse off and back onto the image for the tooltip to come back, but then it's sometimes cut off and.... ;-)

I'm not 100% sure how best to solve this, but I don't think showing the ALT text in a tooltip is the way to go. Maybe something like the official Mastodon mobile app, where if you click on the "ALT" label it expands and overlays the text over the image? But then because my eyes aren't so bad that I can't see the image at all, that might be annoying because I do still want to be able to look at the picture so I can try pick out things that the text describes.

It's an interesting dilemma. I'm sure you'll think of something. :-D
