Suggestion. [MNK] Adding Six sided star as a rotation option. #1372

while i know in a general sense this ability is often ignored, but I've been messing about with it and found a use for it but while next difficult to pull of manually vis sloth it should not be an issue to weave. as its a hard hitting ability and timing it right does not affect the flow of weapon skill rotation

so to have it as an option to be added

due to how it affects the weapon skill GCD after use but abilities are not affected, for sloth to use it it would require conditions to be met, it would only be used if 1-2 abilities are available, so it would only SSS, if it can use Forbidden chakra into perfect balance etc. not sure if it easier to set it open to all abilities, or a specific list that can be tailored

Six Sided Star costs you 2 gcd's for 550 potency. Dragon Kick + Bootshine costs you 2 gcd's for 630 potency, and that's about the lowest potency you can get for 2 GCD's. Very basic abilities. Six Sided Star is not weavable, it's a GCD skill, it will break optimal rotation.

I think you miss my whole point, being that in the CD window post SSS you can use 2+ OGCD. have you tried it manually like i have, or are you just basing things purely on paper math which often does not corelate into in game use. its does not break optimal rotation, i've tried all this manually before i made the suggestion. note i also point out that its to be used pending the ability to use Abilities which are the OGCD after SSS to not break flow. further more I requested that its an option so you can just not check it if you dont want it.

In that example with dragon kick and bootshine, you can do dragon kick + 2 ogcds + bootshine + 2 ogcds. With SSS, you can do SSS + 2 ogcds + this is where your second GCD should be + 2 ogcds. Sure, you could slip another ogcd instead of the gcd, but you could also slip that ogcd between your next two gcd's. There will be slots where you have nothing to weave. Just in the opener, there's 6 more slots for 2 ogcd's and many slots where you could slip a second ogcd, and that's after unloading them all. Yes, I have tested SSS extensively, and I use it semi regularly as an utility.

A majority of sloth is based on balance recommendations, which most raiders use. There's a fairly big community around the balance that test and theorycraft this extensively, so it's a very reliable source.

Here are the monk recommendations concerning SSS: Six-Sided Star is a GCD with a potency of 550, but double the recast of every other GCD. While doing two GCDs is always more potency than doing one SSS, this is useful in scenarios where you don’t have the time to do two GCDs, or before you disengage from a target. A situational skill, you’ll either use it before running out of a big aoe, before a boss dies, or before a boss goes untargetable for whatever reason. It also applies a small movement speed buff for five seconds. Overall a very useful utility GCD.

Source: https://www.thebalanceffxiv.com/jobs/melee/monk/basic-guide/ (github is arse with links, just copy-paste it I guess ? haha) This will make you an amazing monk, once you've practiced enough to deliver on the recommendations. ;)

Of course, this is my opinion, but I do believe they are not too fond of adding options that would make people less efficient. I am also fairly active on the discord and a lot of people are fairly confused already when they open the menu. I think if they add too many options, especially some that don't really benefit the user, it will make that worst. These people are also trusting sloth to make choices that will lead to the best possible results. Again, this is my opinion. ♥

I won't even get too far into the performance cost of adding more and more options, yes, there is still a cost if they're disabled, so I feel like it's important to choose wisely for something like this that runs very often during gameplay. Lots of conditional branches to check through already, with lots of compounding conditions and additional systems around these options, like the menu. ^^''

And well, you know, you're not prevented from using SSS if you feel it's appropriate~

Ultimately though, you're right, the sloth team will make the ultimate decision. Having multiple opinions before they implement something is good, I think, and well, maybe you'll change your mind with the information I gave you. ^^''

I hope this helps. ♥

um no, just going to respond to this, as this isn't my first rodeo, I'm not ignorant of Balance, and I'm not new to theory crafting. was theory crafting for Death Knights and Rogues for WoW for years. and PUG/MNK since ps3 beta days, so I'm not some sprout with rookie ideas here, while I could just go to Balance and put my findings there. one thing I have learned when developing the Wow equivalents to sloth, is the addons tent to have limitations and or a way to do things that cant be performed as good or better than a human in some ways. thus some actions or talents or abilities overlooked or whatever can perform better via addon use, but just suck to do manually. if this was not the case it would just be a simple case of the sloth devs just getting and using the API simulators use and we would all have perfect flawless rotations that even account for various fight variables, but we dont. sorry while this isn't pertinent to my initial requests, your responses just bristled me a little. but no harm no foul
