Check the JA HUD interoperability mode. There is a description in the JA37D manual, which I was missing when I did it.
HUD, not interoperability mode:
[x] HUD terrain height can replace radar altitude, activated by DAP REG/STR 18a1cd. Up to 4 digits
[x] Ground speed in attack mode, enabled below 800m, disabled above 1000m. Not in landing (and I assume takeoff) modes.
HUD, interoperability mode:
[x] Digital speed: unlike metric mode, speed remains visible when mach is displayed. Prefix KT, precision 2kts.
[x] Distance format: NM 0.0 to NM 9.9, NM 10 to NM 999
[x] Altitude scale. Every 2nd graduation is larger, every 4th graduation has a number. No smooth zoom, only two zoom factors:
From -600ft to 6000ft, 50ft between graduations
Above 6000ft: 250ft between graduations
I assume the scaling (distance between graduation) is chosen to match altitude bars on the small scale. edit: no, not even close
[x] Display 'INT' next to the radar altitude (where?)
[x] Radar altitude in feet. Same limits: 100m/328ft and 110m/364ft
[x] Terrain height in feet. Display precision is 100ft above 10000ft (because it uses a special double '0' character).
[x] Current height 'window' on the altitude scale. Selected by DAP FPLDATA 15a--- with a=2 or 3
[x] Airport altitude index on alittude scale.
enabled by DAP FPLDATA 15a--- with a=1 or 3
only at takeoff and landing in QNH mode
[x] QFE warning becomes QNH in QNH mode.
MI:
[x] altitude scale goes from 0 to 60000ft
[x] distance scale goes up to 8,16,32,64 nm
[x] target information uses 'NM' and 'FT' instead of 'A' and 'H'.
[x] check formatting of distances, altitudes, etc (different in metric and imperial modes)
TI:
sideview altitude limits are 15,30,50,100 * 1000ft, displayed as 'kFT' on scale. Distance limits are 8,16,32,64. it's already correct (will teach me not to thrust Nikolai)
QNH mode:
[x] enable with 15--1-, only in interoperability mode.
[x] landing mode altitudes are compensated when QNH is selected (target altitude in phase 1, use of altitude to calculate distance, switch to visual mode).
[x] GPWS altitude are compensated for QNH in landing mode when RHM is off.
Misc:
[x] Training floor is selected in hundred of feet on datapanel (what about metric mode? I guess hundred of meters).
