I'm confused by this. It is upstreamed. There is just a bug to fix.

However, trying it out "in anger" would be a good GSOC project.

@Kranzes : Yes, I proposed the idea.

@Ericson2314 : Yes, it is to start using it and developing towards providing end-user value. It would be a fast-track way to have a GSoC participant to get involved with an advanced concept, try out ideas, and explore the design space.
