Plans for a JEOS for NixOS #2792

Are there any plans to create a JEOS (just enough operating system) for NixOS? Something that's close to CoreOS in terms of size and slimming down. (So slimmer than the current minimal)

If you require the "minimal" profile it will build the system without x11. I've been building some images and in compressed qcow2 form they're about 300mb. Still too big? They have only what's needed to run nix and nixos.

Size will drop a lot after we integrate work started in the multiple-output branch. Stuff that isn't needed for running will be split into a separate store path, similarly to other distros having separate -dev package variant. The plans were to have that before 14.10, but AFAIK there's no idea about the amount of fixups required.

That's great. I would need to study more on Nix before I can contribute.
