I try to run this under wayland/sway. I don't know if this is an issue. As wayland support is limited from nvidia, I hoped that I can use the offload method to access the card when running wayland/sway on the integrated card.
I'm not entirely sure about this, but it probably isn't supported on Wayland.
But from what I understand, the computation is done on the Nvidia card using prime-offload, but the composition is done on the internal CPU in the end, right? Should this not work technology agnostic?
No, it needed specific patches in xserver when it first came out. I believe there is support for EGLStreams with prime sync but I'm not too sure on Wayland/Sway specifics tidbits.
Documentation for prime offload doesn't seem to mention any Wayland support from what I can find.

As far as i know, it is not possible to use PRIME offload in Wayland, so much so that in the official documentation it mentions the X and the patches necessary for its operation.

This one is about X as well. I was having similar issues on both but only the X ones were fixed. My reading of NVIDIA GPU is that multi-gpu wayland isn't supported.

Then I'm afraid that we can not do anything on NixOS side, NVIDIA documentation about prime does not show anything related to Wayland, and from a quick search Wayland does not seem to support NVIDIA propietary drivers too.

I'd expect that if the actual handling of the output and rendering is done via a wayland supported output/driver, that offloading some rendering to nvidia should still be possible? There is not a lot of information available for this topic yet. Even in the arch wiki, no information is available. If prime offloading is not supported at all for nvidia in wayland, this should be added to the documentation.

Yeah, the documentation on this topic is a little bit scarce.
I do not use Wayland but from what I have understood NVIDIA driver did not provide the needed bits to make this (or the driver itself) works on Wayland.

@ishan9299 This is the same exact error that happens to me and that I've found in my journalctl on #98942, I've tried a lot of different configurations but I've been unable to find how to make it work. On the other hand, replacing it with lightdm makes it work on GNOME at the expense of some functionality like blocking the screen, I've haven't tested to install GDM but defaulting to lightdm just to make these things work.
@Alderaeney I know lightdm fixes it. Just pasted the output if it helps.
@Alderaeney you are using Xorg or Wayland?
Xorg, in the issue I opened the problem was with GDM without wayland, but it doesn't work too on wayland, it seems that some component on which GDM relies to make prime render offload work updated around the time I opened the issue and broke support for prime offloading on GDM, I've seen the commits for GDM and there isn't any commits around that time, so I assume the problem is with another component.
On the weekend I will try to test with GDM (without wayland).

Hi @ishan9299, I did a quick scan and your logs are more or less equals to mine.
I did some tests today, I did a rebuild from lightdm to gdm, was greeted by my black tty then isolated the graphical.target again, GDM appeared, I logged in and tested Ace Combat 7 from Steam, in this transition the game worked fine but I did get a bunch of erros in stdout/err from Steam related to my GPU.
Here is some screenshoot proof:

The game is running in the background with 30+ FPS the same with LightDM.

My theory is that there is something wrong with how GDM handles the GUI start, but I will still have to run some more tests.
Can you guys test it too?
Steps:
Switch to lightdm and do a clean reboot, after loging switch to GDM and DO NOT RESTART, test some game or try to activate the offload or check nvidia-smi AFTER that reboot and repeat the test step.
If after the switch from LightDM to GDM you get a tty screen, login in some empty tty and isolate the graphical.target with:
systemctl isolate graphical.target # Need root

Also I am not sure if is okay to continue in this issue, since this is was Wayland versus NVIDIA problem, if everyone agrees we can continue on #98942 and I will close this one.

As for Wayland one way to confirm once and for all would be to try another DM with Sway or something, at first NVIDIA does not mention ANY support for PRIME in Wayland, even the very base support for Wayland is full of controversies.

The only changes I've made were removing the hidepid setting from the configuration.nix.
The output of journalctl is very similar to mine.

Another interesting point, I use physlock and I have the habit of turning on the laptop with the lid closed, in GDM this is causing the physlock to lock up right after startup, after entering the password it takes me to the GDM, the curious thing is that all times this happened I also managed to use PRIME normally.
I don't remember the same phenomenon happening with LightDM or SDDM.

Describe the bug I configured nvidia prime offload according to https://nixos.wiki/wiki/Nvidia including the offload script. When I run vkcube, either with or without setting the offload parameters, it does not work.
To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Expected behavior You see that the GPU is beeing used, either by process or by power usage.
Additional context I am trying this using wayland with sway, I don't know it this is relevant.
