Can't change display resolution in Virtualbox

Describe the bug when i change the display resolution in KDE in Virtualbox, the window changes for 0.5 sec. and changes back to 800x600

it makes no difference if it is the live image or installed

it is not a problem with pantheon desktop

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Expected behavior be able to changes display resolution

I'm getting the same thing on a macOS host. I think it may be from using VBoxVGA instead of VMSVGA for the .ova.
