This is a feature. We added this feature so that the user will be encouraged to have a better work-life balance.
Regarding your P.S, adding this restriction made it harder to implement our "other feature". We did not implement this as a "workaround". At InterviewHub, we care deeply about work-life balance. This is a feature that we intend to keep to promote a healthy lifestyle among our users.

The imposed restriction might limit the use of this app to certain users. For example, a multinational startup interviewing a candidate at 8pm due to timezone difference. A more extreme case is when an interview that passes through the midnight so the start time and end time will be on different dates, though I agree that this is a very unlikely edge case.
Suggestion:
You should do away with the 09:00 to 17:00 restriction because there isn't really any reason to impose that in the first place.
P.S.: I do get that this restriction maybe imposed so it's easier to implement the other feature. But in my opinion, the workaround needs to be within those additional features and not this central feature.
