Is this on AMO anymore, or is it only pre-Quantum?

Noitidart commented 2 years ago

It was pre. Sorry about that. :( I've been out of the firefox addons since the webextension api limited things. :( thanks for still wanting to be a user :(

No problem. You were one of my favourite extension developers Pre-Quantum. I think I was using at least 2 of your extensions regularly, and I had another 1 or 2 that I just needed to review the source code before installing.

You were seriously one of the best extension developers!

Do you have any extensions that work with current Firefox releases?

Noitidart commented 2 years ago

Sincerest thanks brother! I was really into it, I really enjoyed it. I remember talking with you before on a Github issue. You were the best users sharing feedback and self-lessly improving the product for everyone. I have one extension but it's specific to Github development - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/github-relations

I'm into app dev now. I'm working on a task duration time keeping app to see how much time you spent doing things. To see if you hit the goals, like 5 hours of exercise over the week. Still in development - https://thumbs.gfycat.com/OptimisticFormalAlligatorgar-mobile.mp4

I made an app for students to help search answers and another one for churches to stay in touch with congregation (this one is up to 50k users, my main one). If you got any app ideas I would love to team up on it!

You're most welcome. And thank you for the compliments as well!

I have tons of app (and website) ideas. I'll go through my list and see if I have some good ones for you.

Do you prefer easy or hard, or stuff in between? Some of the ideas will be very easy to implement, others very challenging.

Also, do you have any particular topics that interest you?

The task duration app you are working on sounds quite interesting. Coincidentally, just last week I wrote up a new personal document defining how much time I want to spend each day/week on various behaviours. I'm interested to learn if the amount of time I do spend on those tasks is close to how time much I want to spend on them. And then, if they don't match, working on myself (self-growth) to improve the alignment of what I want to do (my values) and what I actually do (my reality).

That's so cool! The ideal apps are the ones that get most users because then we get more feedback and we can make it even better. But the easy ones maybe we can knock out real fast. What do you think of making a Github repository for each idea and I can join the repo and we can create a project board milestones for the ones that we feel we can knock out with motivation. I am wayyyy busy with that Church app but I do go on some side quests haha.

And if you can help with awareness/marketing that would be so good because I'm so bad at that haha. Maybe we can even get some subscriptions on some of them to make some cash! That would be ideal!

That is so cool! I'll let you know as soon as it's out! I'm trying to shoot for this weekend. The first release is only day view, but we can start recording and as I get in the week view, month view, year view, then we can see if we hit that weekly goal of 10 hours exercise etc. Thanks for the interest really motivates me! It's all privacy first, so it's completely local. But then I understand some people want to save their stuff like on phone upgrades, so I was thinking create a backend for that and allow optional account to sync with cloud and thinking charge 1$ subscription there. For you would sure do it for free!

Gitoffthelawn commented 2 years ago

Sounds great! I've got some time-consuming critical stuff I'm working on (health related), so I'm probably going to be very busy for a couple days, but I'm hoping for a slow weekend to relax and do fun things like this.

I'll write back again when I have a bit of free time.

BTW, regarding local vs. accounts, my personal preference is - whenever possible - to have everything local with an option to export all data so I can back it up (and perform an import later, if needed). That said, accounts do often lend themselves to more monetization possibilities. So what I prefer to use for personally isn't always the best choice for a business from a revenue perspective.

A good example is that Microsoft used to make money off of me when all their products were local. Once they switched to more of a cloud-based company, they haven't made any money off of me at all. At the same time, they are doing well financially; so from a business perspective, they might have made a good choice even if they don't get any money from me personally.

Noitidart commented 2 years ago

Oh yes I totally forgot about export and re-import. Thanks for that great feedback. I'm also a privacy based guy, so did everything local. But true, the account offers more monetization chance. I'll get the app done and polish the stuff then we can think about this kind of stuff. iOS makes file export hard as they dont really have an easy to use file browser, but heard they changed or are changing in newer versions. Android makes it easier for file based.

Ya no problem at all, these apps are more side quests for me, the church app has got me super busy as well. But most of the app is the design and planning and brainstorming, so anytime I'm ready to start that! :)

Also prayers up brother for the side stuff you're working on praying all will be well brother!
