Wrong Resolution #45

Have been using ResolutionAutomation for a while now and other than some issues from time to time been great. Just bought a new Asus ProRes laptop with 3200 x 2000 resolution. Unlike my old laptop or my desktop, it doesn't connect at the set resolution and also I can alt-tab out of the full screen view where the others I have to ctrl-alt-shift-q to exist and do other things. Resolution seems to come up at 1280 x 1024. Tried adding 3200 x 2000 both to the sunshine supported list but no joy. Also have it set in moonlight as selected. It would be connecting to a 4k HDR dongle on my RTX 4090. Thoughts?

Note: not sure if related but thought I would mention. When I disconnect on my new laptop with ctrl-alt-shift-q it disconnects but when I go back into Moonlight and go to the DESKTOP icon it still shows a play and stop icon which the others dont.

Note Note: Just noticed also that it's connecting to the primary monitor and not the dongle. Tried connecting with another computer but same deal. So I existed. DESKTOP icon doesn't show the Play/Stop icon like the laptop keeps doing. Connecting again the other computer now shows fine so new laptop connection causing issues. Reconnecting with the new laptop again comes up at 3840x2160 instead of 3200x2000. I can still alt-tab out of the stream for some reason.

Figured out the settings to get it to end the session which I apparently did with the others on exit and to keep the alt and ctrl and stuff commands in the stream. Still having the resolution issues and it opening on the wrong monitor which is obviously the other script but both happening when the new laptop was introduced.

adding the resolution to moonlight or sunshine does not do anything. You need to add the resolution using nvidia control panel or CRU

Thanks I did both and was working. My laptop was showing full screen and even the HDR automation was working. Recently it stopped again and even thought he logs say it successfully changed to 3200 x 2000 x 60 when I look at the screen resolution the laptop screen has black bars top and bottom and the remote display is set to 3840 x 2160. Though the logs say it switched it. I see the HDR Automation triggered successfully.

Launch the desktop App in Sunshine, can you confirm if the black bars are showing up at the desktop or not? If you are not seeing black bars at the desktop, then it is a game issue. Make sure the game is running in borderless windowed, if it is, then the game does not fully support that resolution and black bars intentionally.

Your logs contradict that, it makes no sense to me how you can see black bars at desktop, other than the fact it didnt actually change the resolution /shrug

HDR only works on TV resolutions, there are ways around it but require registry changes on NVIDIA driver that are quite convoluted and never got it to work so cant help much there.

So what will happen is if you enable HDR the OS will swap you back to a TV Resolution to support HDR, instead of just turning off.

Thanks. In theory guess I could go "OK" and call it a day but the parts that confuses me.

  1. My laptop is a 3200x2000 HDR display and Windows 11 displays it with HDR enabled locally.
  2. It has worked at some points. Could resolution change vs HDR change sometimes happen in different orders?
  3. When it "reverts" to 3840x2160 I can change the resolution to 3200x2000 manually on the remote system and it maxes my Moonlight systems display (i.e. no bars) and still shows HDR on the remote system (brights are blinding so know it's active)
